• Question: What made you want to do research on cancer and why

      I decided I wanted to study cancer during my undergraduate degree. We studied lots of things about human biology and the only thing I liked was anatomy (which was really broad and all about the body) until I had one lecture on cancer. I was really interested in it and I wanted to learn more which is why I did my Masters degree in it. I decided to do my PhD to research it because I wanted learn more about it and try and find out something that would help people

    After working in the NHS with patients who have had a diagnosis of cancer and effect this has on them and their families, I wanted to be involved in not just helping to treat them but finding ways through research to improve their quality of life to enable them to live as well as they can for as long as they can and reduce treatment related side effects.

    I wanted to work in cancer research as cancer affects so many people. Many of us will have cancer in our lifetime and it is important to improve treatments we have and discover new, better ones.
