      It is really dependent on what you do, where you work and how many years of experience you have.

      Someone with a doctorate degree can earn anything between £24-30k starting out in an entry level role. Within 10 years depending on whether you work in industry or university, you could be earning £50-100k.

    As has been said, it really does vary quite a lot based on experience and setting. If you want a real life experience, I am doing a PhD at the Uni of Oxford and with my current salary I can live rather comfortably, paying my rent and with the occasional night out / dine out. Some of my fellow PhD students with a non-medical background earn a bit less than that but still manage reasonably well.
