Trying not to be wasteful with my research. Some research institutions can be surprisingly wasteful, so it is up to us as scientists to be thoughtful about what we use and make sure that we are doing all we can to help the environment.
Great question – I cycle as often as I can, or take public transport, rather than drive. I don’t eat a lot of meat (which is also a money saver), I recycle and try to avoid buying plastic-covered food. I try and support any campaigns sent my way for governments and the technology sector to make policies that tackle climate change as personally I think these are the biggest factor in improving the environment.
From a personal standpoint I meat reduce in my diet and try to stick to buying second hand clothes but professionally I try to reduce the use of single use plastics and not ordering things I wont use
I try to recycle as much as I can. I buy local and seasonal products to cook my meals.
I am also allowed to work one day from home now, and considering that I have to drive for one hour to go to work that is good for the environment too! I also reuse clothes a lot. My children have everything second-hand passed from friends children. However, to be able to visit my family I still need to take planes. I wish there would be a more sustainable way to go there! Otherwise I walk everywhere when I can!
