I never thought I would be a cancer researcher or any kind of scientific researcher until after I left school. When I was younger I wanted to be a teacher (because I always enjoyed school) or a dog walker or a vet (because I loved dogs – I still might become a dog walker one day!). I really enjoyed human biology in high school and found learning about our immune system really interesting so I studied immunology at university and during this time I found cancer research super interesting. Most of the researchers in my field are very passionate about what they do which is one of the main things that made me want to work in cancer research.
