I think Saudi Arabia. The country is mostly desert, and even though it’s almost 9 times the size of the UK, it’s only got half the population! I would usually spend 6-7 weeks at a time there, working crazy hours in crazy conditions, and every now and again all of the generators would fail (sandstorms and engines don’t work well together!). When the generators failed, all of the lights would go out, and there would be almost perfect silence. This meant that there would be no lights on for hundreds of kilometres, no air pollution as we were 10+ hours drive from the nearest city, and no roads for cars to make noise in the distance. It was really nice to see all of the stars without distraction and there are few places in the world you can have that! Alternatively, the BBQ in Texas is really, really good.
