When I was at school I actually wanted to be a doctor. When I was in college I got a place to study medicine at King’s College London but during my exams I had to go to hospital and have an operation to take out my appendix … so I missed them all and couldn’t go! I remember being really heartbroken at the time and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I took a gap year and decided to study a Medical Neuroscience degree (mainly because it had the word medical in it!) During first year I enjoyed university a lot and spent a lot of time with my friends and not so much time studying. I started to really enjoy neuroscience in my second year then fell in love with it in my third year. So it took my quite a while to find out what I really loved doing. It’s quite normal that your interests change as you grow up and as your brain develops!
