My job involves a lot of programming. Often in C++ and python.
I probably spend about 1/4 of my working week working on code for one thing or another.

Bioinformatics and molecular networking are two computational techniques I use. I have taken a course in bioinformatics which taught me some very basic python coding. I would like to learn more and I think programming is really useful in science!

I work with some machines that require programming but I don’t program anything myself. I agree with Alison though I think programming is very important in science and having a basic knowledge would be a useful thing.

I haven’t done programming yet but it’s something I’d like to do during my PhD. I did a bioinformatics course a couple of years ago and found it really really hard 🙁

I do! Today I have been writing a python script to automatically email certain people reports when one of my online maps updates. One bit part of programming is getting computers to do our work for us. So first I developed an app where geologists can record the data they need and send that information to an online map, and then built the python script to automate what happens when those reports are submitted!
