Hey, do you mean owning them or creating them? I think that the problem is that everyone owns them. I have seen images of the devastating effects of nuclear radiation and I think that owning them can do no good. However, no country is going to wish to get rid of them while other countries have them in order to preserve the stalemate situation.
Hi there. There’s nothing good about war, and nothing good or bad about nuclear weapons that isn’t good or bad about weapons in general. That’s the moral side of things. Buying and trying to guard a weapon that you are never planning to use but are trying to convince the other side that you are willing to use, but not be so convincing that they think they need to fire first? That’s criminally stupid.
I think that you decide first-off if you agree with a necessity for weapons and war in general – and then if nuclear weapons are really a fair way to fight a war. I think that wars are not pleasant, but sometimes necessary. However, I think that nuclear weapons are not exactly “playing fair” …even if both sides have them.
Hi nomnomnom! I am siding with Julia on this one! When scientists first envisioned using atomic power I don’t think they had any idea about the demon they were making. Nuclear weapons have been very bad for humanity, leading many to wonder about the lifetime of intelligent civilizations – i.e. if they can even survive the discovery of nuclear power. All this doesn’t necessarily mean the weapon itself is “morally wrong” but certainly the intent behind it is (as Drew has nicely described). So no, I don’t like them one bit.
