Question: We've recently covered a little bit of Microbiology in the lab, and so I was wondering if you look at all kinds of Microbiology, or do you just focus on one particular sort? (ie fungus)
I have done a bit of both (sounds like a cop out answer but it’s true!). In the past I’ve done a lot of research on E.coli and how it responds to signals in its environment (like how much oxygen is present) but at the moment I have some students that are looking at the variety of micro-organisms that are present in soil. They are looking at the different bacteria and fungi that live in soil and how the numbers of each are affected by pollution.
