From my internship I have witnessed first-hand the extent of the antibiotic resistance crisis in clinical settings. That is when I decided that contribute to the microbiological cause since it has often been overlooked and overshadowed by the advent of regenerative medicine (stem cell research) and advances in oncology (cancer research), and yet they cause more acute diseases with rapid onset.

Pharmaceutical companies also lack the incentive to develop new antibiotics because the business models simply do not work, so we’re fast running out of drugs to combat infectious diseases.

It would be quite ironic if there are all these fancy, expensive drugs and treatments for cancer and regenerative conditions, and yet people die from secondary infections first!

It took me a while until I decided to become a psychologist/neuroscientist. I liked psychology at school, but I liked sports journalism more, so initially I chose the later. Later, I decided to study psychology and loved it. So, although I had an interest in psychology for a while, it took me quite long until I finally got here 🙂
