Sleep has different functions that are important for the body. Some have to do with housekeeping. For example, studies have found that lack of sleep leads to difficult with adjusting body temperature and food intake – you are more likely to feel hot or cold and crave food when you didn’t get enough sleep.
Sleep is also important for the brain. There are different theories of why that might be. The most supported theory suggests that sleep helps our brain to reset so that we can take on new information the next day and are better able to remember what we learned before.
