The first lab was set up by a very important scientist for psychologists Wilhelm Wundt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_Wundt) in Germany as long as 1880! He was the first scientist to really set Psychology apart as a field and establish it as a real science in it’s own right, until then I think psychology and the idea of introspection (or looking inwards at our own minds) was thought of as superstition and trickery. The people who worked under him went on to become very good scientists and began working in areas like child psychology and intelligence which paved the way for psychology as a science today!
