• Question: Who is your role model?

      Brilliant question! There are a lot of scientists I really respect. My previous boss who is now one of my PhD supervisors is a man called Professor Marcus Munafo, and he’s taught me loads of skills for how to be a good researcher. He’s really keen on being very careful when reporting statistics, to not make any claims that your data can’t support, and when writing to check and double check that your results are clear and that your writing is readable to anyone, not just the people who know a lot about the research already.

      He also encourages all his students to do lots of public engagement and such like, so he has been really supportive while I’ve been doing this.

      I have other role models too, but he’s one of them.

      Thanks for a great question.

      Does it have to be a scientist? If not, I’d have to say my Mum. She doesn’t really know anything about science, but she is the most amazing person in the world (at least to me :-)). She brings out the best in everyone!

      I’d like to be just like her, but with the science on top. There is nothing better than a person that can make other people feel confident.

      I have other role models – some of them in science. There are of course lots of great people in science!
