Thanks for the question. I think computers will only ever be as intelligent as the people that create and use them. I hope so anyway I am a massive scardy cat and think it would be rather weird to say the least if computers could out think us.

Great question! Well, computers are like the human brain in that they can process and manipulate information very quickly. In addition, computers can also be damaged like the human brain. But in my mind computers need a set of instructions to perform this processing. Now you could argue that the human brain also needs instructions – I guess this is what ‘learning’ is – however I think the human brain can learn without direct instruction but computers cannot. I suppose it depends what your definition of intelligence is.

Have you seen ‘I Robot’? Now in that film computers were more intelligent than humans!

Human brains are limited in their ability by the fact that they can only be changed by evolution over many generations, and that they have to fit inside a relatively small skull. Computers aren’t limited by either of these things, and so I think it is inevitable that one day, we will be able to create a computer (or another computer will be able to create a computer) that is more ‘intelligent’ than a human

Hi Loulou, I don’t think a computer will ever be more intelligent that a human. We make computers so they work in the way we design. We are a long way from understanding exactly how human intelligence works and so for now we’ll be ahead of computers.
