My first degree was in Biochemistry. Basically, this subject looks at how chemicals within the cells of your body interact to give rise to a correctly functioning person (you). My degree was mainly concerned with looking at a certain type of protein (an enzyme) which speeds up particular reactions. I would highly recommend a Biochemistry degree to anyone thinking of doing Biological Science at University, as it covers so many different areas, and you can subsequently specialise in something completely different (for example, I’m now looking at how genes affect behaviour!)
