I have discovered how a particular gene on the X chromosome, which might be involved in autism, is activated. I have also discovered that a second gene on the X chromosome, affects attention, and that it might be mutated in people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In the future, I hope to try and work out how these genes might influence brain development and brain function, and to develop new drugs affecting these pathways as treatments for disorders such as autism and ADHD.
