Hi Johnny, thanks for your question. My answer is yes. I definitely love what I work on. My area of research is linked to diseases like Parkinson’s which make people’s lives pretty awful. I definitely think that makes me focus on why I do what I do. I’m not saying I am going to cure any diseases myself but hope that my contributions to the big picture may make even a small difference in understanding how the brain messes up in diseases and help in the search for better medicines or even cures. I am a great believer that if you don’t have a passion for what you do then you are not going to put your best into it.
Fiona 🙂
Hey Johnny
I hope so. I went to uni for 4 years to get a degree and am now 3 years into a PhD (a sort of science apprenticeship) and I don’t think I could have but the hours and study in if I didn’t find science really interesting and was dedicated to it. Also the chance that my research will one day be beneficial to the public makes me dedicated to continue.
Hello again. Yes I am very dedicated! I work about 10 hour per day to make sure that I get all my work done. But it’s worth it when you see the research that you have helped produce published in a good scientific journal and even commented on by other scientists in your field.
Also, I have spent the past 10 years working in psychology so I guess that makes me pretty dedicated by default 🙂
