Question: are you intererrested on studying astronomy? if you are what are the things you prefer to study?(such as stars, planets, comets, nebulae, star clusters and galaxies)
I am, but I am no expert in the area but have a real interest in understanding about the universe. I find the galaxies interesting and knowing how they formed is what interests me the most
I must admit that the stars have always fascinated me, but my interests lie much more along the physics route – the nature of black holes for instance or the quantum physics behind wormholes!
I do love space though – the prospect of us as a species having a presence somewhere outside of our own planet fascinates me, and I would love to work later in life on something regarding space. Everything up there is reduced to its most basic physical reactions – a real challenge!
Despite me saying all that, I have taken an interest in Jupiter recently – there was a collision there by an asteroid on June 3rd – bright enough that we could see it here! And now one of Jupiter’s coloured rings has gone… amazing!
I like astronomy, particularly astrophysics, but only as an amateur (so, I don’t work on it). If I was to work in astrophysics, I think that I’d want to work on planetary physics, as I think that a lot of new data will be coming through over the next few decades, and this could be used to properly test new ideas about how planets form and function.
Hi
I’m really fascinated by light and when I decided I was going to study Physics at University I looked at the different courses that were available to me. Astrophysics was an option because I was so impressed when I saw colour images of things in space when I could only see black and white when I looked up! In the end I decided to go for a Laser Physics and Optoelectronics course because I thought that would give me wider options for working afterwards.
I went to the planetarium show at the Bristol science museum and it was really fascinating – I’d love to be able to navigate just using the stars – that could be very useful
