I’m a big fan of fantasy books, one of my favorites was he Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. The did make a film about it (Eragon) but it didn’t do it justice!

      I like this question!

I really like novels that explore the relationship between people and their environment, or how people react to an unfamiliar situation. For example, dystopian novels or books in a context of a social experiment!

Being Mexican, I am a big fan of South American writers, especially those who write in a “magical realism” style. It’s basically fantasy, often there is some degree of magic involved, but the overall feel of it is as if it is set in our real world. I’ll read anything by Garcia Marquez or Murakami, who is a really really good Japanase author and writes quite similarly.

I also like good old fashioned short stories. Hemingway is my favourite, but Daphne de Maurier is another strong contender for the short story crown!

I like to read books of facts, like Ripleys Believe It Or Not and Guinness book of records – I’ve always been interested in these types of books.

I still like reading kids books and Roald Dahl has always been my favourite – slightly twisted stories that don’t take too long to read.

Use to read a lot of horror books by Shaun Hutson and James Herbert – but not for a long time now.

Of course, I read lots of science books for work too.

I wish I read more books! I quite like books with a historical setting, about different family members and generations – The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood is a great example of this, and Paula by Isabel Allende (though this is a true story, and has elements of magical realism like Christian mentioned).

I like fantasy as well, on balance Neil Gaiman is probably my favorite author – I really need to watch the TV series of Good Omens! I quite like graphic novels and manga too.

I sometimes read non-fiction as well, particularly popular science, about different areas of biology and medicine. I rarely use books as part of my work, bioinformatics is so rapidly changing books would go out of date really quickly, so it’s better to refer to scientific journals.
