• Question: • For all the people who have lost arms and legs, we know it is possible for a robotic limb to be made (hence the Paralympics), but can you create synthetic skin so they can blend in with other people?

      This is a great question, we can make skin grafts but this needs the underlying tissue to grow onto, this currently is the problem with the prothetic or robot limbs. I don’t think this is possible yet?

      The biggest challenge for re-creating any tissue or organ is how it then interacts with the host. Kind of like an individual rejecting an organ transplant. So i think the biggest challenge in this scenario would be to find a way that the skin could survive with the robotic leg given that there is not blood flow to the skin….
