It is really different! In Singapore I feel that the learning pattern was more about absorbing as much information as possible and testing whether we could memorise that (through gut-wrenching mass examinations). Whereas in the UK, the students are encouraged to think further/ propose a solution to a problem. In Singapore a perfect exam score is the measure of success, whereas in here understanding the concept and applying is the success. I understand that increasingly the Singapore education is trying to encourage more “thinking” instead of “memorising”, and but it’s challenging to break the old habit… No wonder the students are very stressed!
