I get paid the usual amount for an Assistant Prof at Nottingham, some of which goes to the Impact Campaign in the university. As well as giving to charity I try to spend a week a year volunteering for Diabetes UK on children and young people’s holidays
As much as a scientist is paid…..and I give money to a variety of charities for cancer research but also for cat protection and international found for animal wellfare
I am an international student here so I definitely earn less than my local colleagues. But I am happy anyway, student life is not expensive (unless you choose to). I support British Heart Foundation, Red Cross, Tommy’s the Baby Charity and a charity my friend makes to give scholarship to students from Indonesia. I am not giving lots of money but I try to give small amounts regularly or just help with fund raising. Every little helps!
I am on a PhD bursary so I don’t get paid a lot but enough to get by and live on. I do donate to charities when I can afford to though. I recently donated to a charity for brain cancer and will be running the Leeds Abbey Dash this Sunday with work colleagues to raise funds for another cancer charity and a mental health charity also. I also raised over £1000 a couple of years ago running the Edinburgh marathon for the Teenage Cancer Trust and a local Barnsley charity called Little Foxes which are very close to my heart.
