Yes we use exercise and diet to study skeletal muscle. The more practical and everyday the better as it makes it more useful for the general public.

Yes I normally use food in my research, it’s best to try and use things people eat. Also, I have used normal objects such as desks to see if standing up is better than sitting down

Yes I use Smartphones and apps for my research to assess if they are suitable ways of encouraging people to become and stay active long term 🙂
