• Question: Do you think it will ever be possible to grow cells outside the body to be implanted and used in the body but on a major scale?

      Yes, its happening already. There’s some great work using tissue engineering approaches to grow lots of different types of tissue. These use cells specifically for the tissue, or stem cells which can be made into any type of tissue. Cardiac patches are being developed to replace damaged heart muscle. Tendons are being grown to replace damaged ones like you would get with a knee injury. A lot of these techniques are still in development but the technology is certainly there

      yes, Andy is right, it is happening already. Tomorrow I will not be able to chat on line as I am going to visit a company that has a technology to isolate very small stem cells from blood. We are interested in looking a the process and hopefully use them to treat obese individuals who have a fatty liver which not functioning any more….I will keep you posted on what I find out!!

      I agree with Giovanna and Andy, the only thing to add is you need to start with a cell to grow more cells. I don’t think we can make the initial first cell yet
