I have worked with animals in the past. As Giovanna mentioned, government regulations are very strict when it comes to animal use for research. Each scientist has to undergo specific training by the home office and each procedure is tightly controlled so that no pain or harm is caused.
I don’t do animal research either.. we take blood from little children but that is after we apply sufficient anaesthetics and if the children give thumbs up for the procedure..
I don’t work with animals either. I do occasionaly take blood samples from people and expose them to small doses of ionising radiation via a DXA scanner machine which is like an X-ray machine. Its very small doses (less than what we are exposed to on a daily basis through everyday life) though and does not casue any harm at all.
