One of my favourite practicals at school was when we were looking at light. My teacher covered all the windows with black cardboard so it was pitch black when he turned the lights off.
This was when I learnt that it takes like five minutes for our eyes to switch into night vision mode. I still couldn’t see great but I went from seeing absolutely nothing to seeing everyone’s faces and the lab benches.
While in the dark we saw how you can split a beam of white light into the different colours of the rainbow, we saw how light can interfere with itself causing it to be brighter or to disappear. We also split up the light that came off the computer monitor so you can see that it is only made up of three colours (Red, Green and Blue) even though the screen can be made to appear any colour you want it only uses these three and you can confirm this by splitting the light up.
It really helped me understand how light works and it looked pretty cool too.
