My favourite thing about science is that it is like a puzzle that you have to solve. You design experiments to try and answer questions and you have to think about your results and what they mean. It is very rewarding when things come together and you start getting a picture of what is going on.
My least favourite thing is that you have to repeat yourself a lot to make sure that the results you get are real, and not a fluke or an accident. So I will get a result and be very excited and my supervisor will tell me to do it again to make sure. This is reeeeallly boring, but also very important. You don’t want to end up with the wrong ideas!
My favourite thing is experiments. I often face a problem which I design experiments to tell me more information then I can come up with a solution to the problem and try out another experiment to see if this solution works. It’s fun to get hands on with equipment and look through results.
My least favourite thing is writing. I’m excited to tell other people about my work but I don’t enjoy the process of writing my work up in a formal way. However it’s important so other scientists can find out what you’ve been doing.
Great question!
My favourite thing is that it’s my job to find out new stuff. I’m doing things which have never been done before, which I think is really cool. The idea that I’m making a difference in the world definitely motivates me.
My least favourite thing, to be really honest, is the pay. I think scientists should get paid more, as they’re usually contributing a lot to the world and they know a lot.
