I was around 15 when I started getting interested in science. I realised that I enjoyed subjects like maths and physics more than arts subjects, so I took science-y subjects for A-level and went on from there.

Like Hazel I started getting really interested in science around 14/15 when I could understand enough of it to know some cool things. I didn’t decide I was going to study it until I was 16 though and didn’t decide on a career in science until I was 19.

I was pretty young! My mum tells me I wanted to be a scientist since I was 8. My dad is very interested in science, and was a science teacher for a short while when I was growing up, but he changed jobs. So my parents were good at supporting my enthusiasm with things like Horrible Science books which are very fun.

I also had some really good teachers at school. It was probably during my GCSEs that I settled on Biology as my favourite subject.
