Hello and thanks for the question!

Sadly, none! The money that I get has to be used for my experiments in the lab, so I don’t have any money that I can use to make projects for young people. However, if I win this competition, I would like to use that prize money to get some school children into the labs at my University to get some experience doing some fun, hands-on science.

I’ve not had any money for my own projects so I’ve been working with organisations such as the Institute of Physics (IOP), STEMnet and Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) to run experiments at a stall at events. Some of the more obscure events have included a country fair and highland games where we were trying to engage with people of all ages who wouldn’t normally think about science.

If I were to win the prize money here I’d use it to build a working model that young people can try out for themselves which I could take into schools, use at the office and lend to other people.

      Hi,

I setup an interactive stalls every year for school pupils to visit and learn about how plants grow under different conditions. They visit the stall and have a chance to see how plants grow under light, dark and how they behave when we trip them over. I also teach them how to grow plants and they can take seeds and instructions to grow some fruit and veg for their dinner.

I visited schools and did experiments at science festivals when I was a postgrad student, but I haven’t run any projects myself.
