• Question: how did the days of the week get their name?

      I think the Greeks named them after planets. Then the Romans re-named the planets after gods and thus renamed the days after gods. Then we re-named the days after our gods instead of the roman gods and that kind of stuck because we ended up with one god and you need seven to rename the days.

      I think some of it also has Nordic god influences

      Odin – Wednesday (Odin was also called Wodan)
      Thor – Thursday
      Frige – Friday

      Language is often a cultural mishmash, with lots of different influences and I think the days of the week are a good example of how those influences come together!
