      I would force all scientists to work together and now race against each other on who makes the same discovery sooner.

      I’d like there to be funding systems in place that allow for more creativity and innovation in Science. The way funding is currently set up results in a lot of “safe science” it achieves slow, incremental improvement with little risk and that’s rarely where the big breakthroughs happen. The UK is particularly bad at this although the Welcome Trust Senior Fellowships are a step in the right direction.

      I’d like funders to trust the scientists, give longer term funding in broad areas and free up scientists to do the research rather than spending huge amounts of their time applying for short term grants.
