First, I think it’s important to have practical skills. I think a good scientist/engineer should be able to make stuff. This might be working with materials or food or textiles, or it might be coding.
Second, I think good design is essential to selling an idea. We’re all human, we like things (and people) that are attractive, we don’t have loads of time. So, a good way to sell ideas is with good design.
Third, there’s so much cool stuff on the horizon. I think there’s a lot coming up in wearable electronics, really close to appearing in shops. Things like, clothes with built-in heating, sensors for exercise (more than just a heart-rate monitor, but to help you improve your performance through efficient motion), connections to the web.
