Question: is there elements of art in your job aswell as just science?

Yes, I think more creativity than art as such (but maybe that depends on what you think art is!) .

I spend loads of time trying to think of elegant ways of designing an experiment which is a really creative time. Scientists also have to do also spend quite a lot of time telling other scientists and the public about what they do, so I spend time drawing cartoons showing my experiments so I can explain them to other people.
