Hey again, Sophie, and hi 236bcme36

Clock reactions. Check out this video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JAqrRnKFHo

I know I should write something like ‘enzyme reactions’, but I like colours and explosions. That’s what got me interested in chemistry and helped me win a prize before going to university. (Not for blowing anything up, but for explaining why I like chemistry.)

I don’t think that I have a favourite experiment. I really enjoy designing experiments, it can take a long time to work out an experiment that gives a clear answer to the question you have. I often design and experiment asking is it A or B only for my experiment to say the answer is C! Then I have to try and work out why!

Chris is on the money here….the clock reactions are literally MIND BLOWING. The video he posted is in one of my lectures. I adore this chemistry, it is very complicated but so interesting…how did the leopard get its spots?…the B-Z reaction! (maybe…we don’t know)

Thanks for your question Sophie! Its great that you love chemistry! My favourite experiement is extracting DNA from onions! You can do it at home by mashing up onions and washing up liquid and washing with alcohol. If it works, you can pull out long strings of DNA. I think it’s amazing how all of the chemical instructions for life are contained on a stringy bit of goop!
