Neonatal Stroke, Hydrocephalus, Neonatal Meningitis, e.t.c.
Neonates are newborn babies so it means whatever defects they have is likely to have occurred when they were in their mother`s womb as a fetus. However, within the neonatal period (0-28days old), they are exposed to some environmental and other factors that make them at risk of developing brain disorders even though born healthy. Some common disorders of the neonatal brain are:
      (1) Neonatal Stroke which may lead to cerebral palsy, learning disabilities. This type of stroke is connected with disruption in the supply of blood to the brain and hence reduction in the oxygen levels in the developing brain. Many times women who struggle with delivering their babies normally are allowed to undergo surgical delivery/caesarian section to ensure that the baby does not suffocate in the birth canal due to prolonged labor as this can lead to neonatal stroke. babies should get enough oxygen hence be kept in a well-ventilated environment as they are still adjusting to their new apartment. (from a cozy womb and oxygen obtained from mother directly, now to a not so cozy room where they are to use their own lungs to breathe). That adjustment period is really crucial for them.
      (2) Hydrocephalus. This is when fluid builds up in the brain
      (3) Neonatal Meningitis. When the membrane that lines the brain and spinal cord (called meninges) become inflamed. This can lead to death.
