I am fascinated by the stories the elements can tell us, and the way that something fundamental (that seemed so useless in my GCSE classroom) actually is in use in real life, and can be used to human advantage.
My Dad testing the soil in the field using pH strips, and salt precitpitation to determine mineral levels, which were practicals that I was doing at school made me realise that Chemsitry is relevant in ‘the real world’ and that it wasn’t all just theory.
Plus- it is really good fun to be able to safely set someones hands on fire or create a tornado with dry ice for example
