      There are 2 genders, Male and female.However, there is a social gender which is how you choose to be referred to. You may be male and decide to act feminine and vice versa

      Most people say there are two. Slugs and snails are hermaphrodites, meaning they are both at the same time. Some plants have male and female; which is why holly has berries on some trees (female) and not others (male). Amoeba have no gender, and simply divide. There is a tropical lizard which lays eggs, but no males exist (as far as we know).
      Like all science, rules do not often fit easily
