• Question: do you like the periodic table and if so why?

      I like the periodic table. Once you understand it then it is really easy to be a scientist.

      The periodic table is an active chemical map, and has nearly got me fired!
      I was asked to order a glass wall, etched with the periodic table for the main entrance area in the Chemistry Department.
      In between ordering and delivery of the giant wall, the IUPAC ( International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) who are the international body responsible for naming the elements once they have been discovered – changed the name of one of the elements- so that periodic table is always and forever now wrong! Check it out and see if you can spot the deliberate error if you come to Sheffield!

      I have one on my wall, just behind my desk. It has information on it which I cannot remember but which is useful in my work. Plus it is colourful, and my wall is dull, dull, dull
