At Birth, the brain cells contain around 100 billion cells but as we age this reduces due to dying cells hence an adult brain should contain less. But since the brain is able to produce new cells this loss of cells is replaced. Diseases and toxic drugs however greatly reduce the number of brain cells leading to degeneration in the function of the brain.
Yes, brain problems can be fixed using new cells. For instance, a brain cell from a healthy newborn can be grown to be used for a replacement of lost cells in another child or adult. Another way is to take some cells from the good portion of a person`s brain and grow it for a while and bring it back to replace the bad portion. All this technology is in its early stages and because it involves the brain a very sensitive part of the body, it will take a while to get Medical approval. I hope that in future younger scientist will have a say in approving drugs or cells for treatment of diseases and involved in healthcare laws.
