I am in support of using stem cells. As a cell culturist, I produce my own cells by using the cortex of the brain from a newborn Wistar rat ( Day 1). I digest the cells with enzymes that will multiply the cells for me so that I can get many neurons. I then use these cultured neurons to experiment the effects of different drugs in neurotransmission or in damaged cells.
The cell culture technique reduces the number of animals that need to be sacrificed for human sake.
Stem cells can also be cultured so a small amount can yield large numbers in culture just as the HeLa cells were developed from Henrietta Lacks, these cells were used to produce the polio vaccine as they were cancer cells and rapidly multiplied.
