That’s a very good question. Taking food to space is a big problem for astronauts. When we first starting to send people to space, food was mainly dehydrated and packed into tubes and packets to minimise the weight and to prevent things like crumbs to fly around the spaceship. However, recently this have changed and astronauts can even eat peanut butter and honey sandwiches in space!! How cool is that?

Have a look at this YouTube video made on the International Space Station by astronaut Chris Hadfield: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZx0RIV0wss

Ha, it’s a bit gross to think about it, what what goes in must come out! And going to the toilet in space is not easy! Astronauts must strap their feet the ground to counteract gravity’s pull making them float around. The toilet, rather than working with flushing water like it does here on earth, works using air suction….that way nothing can float away! Other wise it could get messy…….
