It was the way Albert Einstein was proven to be right about his theory of general relativity.
In 1915 he had developed his new theory of gravity, called General relativity, and had made a prediction regarding what you should see during a solar eclipse: light from stars around the rim of the sun would be bent by the Sun’s gravitational attraction, and this would make it look as if the stars had been displaced in space.
But the first world war was on, so nobody could go and check if Einstein was right. The first opportunity after the war was in 1919, and by then Einstein had found a mistake in his calculations — he was off by a factor of 2! So he corrected his prediction just in time, and indeed on May 28th 1919 he was proven right!
Fortunately for him he had found his mistake in time! After that, he became the most famous scientist in the world.
