      In the UK we do not test things like make-up on animals because it has been deemed cruel. Animals are sometimes used for testing in medical trials where the benefits are believed to outweigh the risks, before a human clinical trial can begin, but this is for drug development for medicines that could save lives, not for make-up or other cosmetic products.

      I think we test fewer make up and cosmetic products on animals than we did – but we do still use animals to test medicines on.
      The main reason is to try to find out if the product is harmful to humans.
