So, a black hole is a form of dead star. There are 3 main types of dead star: white dwarfs (most stars with masses less than 8 times the mass of the sun become one of these), a neutron star, or a black hole. Only the most massive objects become a black hole. If a white dwarf merges with something – like another white dwarf, or a star, then it can become a neutron star or a black hole.

In general, most dead stars, don’t form new things, but all the gas that is blown off in the explosion causes a nebula – a gas cloud in space. Some of them are really beautiful. But this gas can then go on to form new stars.
