Hi Charlie. I work at the Sanger Institute, where the human genome was sequenced and a lot of really cool advances in genetics and sequencing technology happen. We have a great program for visiting schools to come and see what we do (we have some amazing kit, a data storage center with more than 5 petabytes of storage space, for example, which needs 2 stories of cooling equipment to stop the temperature reaching spontaneous combustion point), but some schools can’t afford the transport costs to visit. I would use the money for travel bursaries so that more students could come to visit.
