I think the most interesting thing we’ve found out is that bacteria living in the soil can trigger the potato cyst nematodes to hatch out of their shell and go in search of food.
That might be of use – if we can use the bacteria to signal hatch when the food isn’t there, the nematode may starve and be wiped out. This ‘trap cropping’ might be a useful way of controlling the pest.
