      Hi effy
About 11 years ago I spotted an advertisement for a job at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, to set up a new department of cell biology. At that time I working in the physiology department at UCL, and studying a variety of diseases, such as cancer and heart disease, but this seemed like an exciting opportunity in a completely new area. I was also attracted by the opportunity to work more closely with medics and their patients. So my interest in curing blindness was not a lifelong ambition, but something that developed as the result of a job change.
