• Question: following on from my questions on chat, can we take the cells from a patient infected with malaria and do tests to find out what can cure it? or has that already been done? or cant it?

      Hi luvgok.

      Yes, we grow malaria parasites in the lab all the time, and throw drugs at them to see what kills them. They grow in human red blood cells, we just need to feed them red blood cells and give them a special gas mix, to simulate the oxygen balance in our veins. Testing compounds in the lab like this is a big part of what will lead to new drugs and vaccines.
