Some of the time, but some of the time I was in hospital and so I couldn’t go to school. And at my first school I was very badly behaved! But I got good marks in my school leaving exams.

      Hi Jonathan,
Not in everything! I was rubbish at French, but good in Biology so I knew the direction I wanted to follow.

      Broadly speaking, yes.

However, I have met many scientists who only started to excel at college of university. Sometimes the teaching style and independence of university suits some people better!

I got good marks for my GCSEs and A levels, and good marks help you get into good universities. I think it’s still possible to be a great scientist with bad marks in school or even university, although I think life becomes much easier with good grades.

I got good marks at GCSEs but really bad ones at A-levels. I managed though in University to get the highest mark for my degree in my year! But what I am trying to say is this, yes marks do matter but it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get them. You just have to work hard for things you want to achieve and eventually you will get there.
