I don’t know much about migraines, since I am not a neurologist. I know they are a neurological disorder in which the people affected have periodical headaches. The intensity of the headaches varies from time to time and person to person. In theory pain medications like ibuprofen and paracetamol should be sufficient to prevent or reduce the symptoms. However, for some people these medications are ineffective and they need to go to a neurologist who will prescribe medicines called triptans or ergotamines. Apparently the causes of migraines are genetic, but in some cases there are also some triggers that can initiate a migraine in a susceptible person.

Also there must be a link between hormones and migraines, since they tend to appear during the puberty and tend to disappear with the menopause.

I only know a little about migraines, because I get them myself! Migraines seem to happen because of a swelling of the blood vessels in the head. Did you know that the brain itself doesn’t have any pain receptors? It’s all down to the receptors in the blood vessels themselves.

I honestly don’t know if there will be a cure for migraines. Many people successfully treat them with medicines from the doctor.
